Wellness
The concept of wellness as defined by Dr. Stephen
Godin is “the interaction of the body, mind, and spirit - the
appreciation that everything we do, think, feel, and believe has an
impact on our state of health.” Health means much more than the absence
of disease. Health also extends to achieving optimal physical and mental
well-being, such that we can live life to its’ full potential. My
commitment is to help individuals, couples and families explore the
value of understanding and practicing the mind – body - spirit
connection.
The context for understanding the mind can be found
in the work of Dr. Daniel Siegel who writes that the mind is the pattern
in the flow of energy and information. This flow is created within the
brain of the individual as well as within the interpersonal - how two
minds interact with each other.
What supports my commitment to help others improve
their physical and emotional self-awareness is the research into the
links between emotional health and the body. Wellness is absent when
feelings of hopelessness, rage, fear, anxiety, and conflict are
experienced and then displayed in unhealthy physical symptoms. Wellness
is present with feelings of worth, contribution, purpose, and healthy
human connection. Spirit from the Latin spiritus
meaning “breath” is the vital principle or animating force within living
beings. When I guide individuals to access and vitalize their essence,
their core, they describe a dynamic level of functioning that maximizes
their potential to achieve their aspirations.
